FAIR HOUSING ACT (FHA)
The Fair Housing Act (FHA) protects people from discrimination when they are renting or buying a home, getting a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or engaging in other housing-related activities. Under this law, emotional support animals are allowed access to housing without any additional fees, even if there is a “no pet” policy. Under the FHA, landlords are required to provide reasonable accommodations and thereby, equal opportunities, to use and enjoy housing regardless of breed or weight.
AIR CARRIER ACCESS ACT (ACAA)
The Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) protects disabled passengers from discriminatory practices from commercial airlines. Under the ACAA, passengers with emotional support animals must be allowed to fly with them inside the cabin. If your emotional support animal happens to be a large dog, you may even request to change to a seat with more room in order to accommodate the two of you.
